In accordance with the Vice-Chancellor’s Address at the Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS) Monthly Assembly on 13 January 2023, the Centre for Core Studies (PPT) has been formally upgraded to the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), effective 1 February 2024. This is consistent with the status of University College (previously known as KUIS) upgraded to a full-pledged university, now officially recognised as Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS). The establishment of FSS is a strategic step taken for the long-term benefit of the academic community and the university in responding to the evolving demands of higher education.
The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) comprises three (3) departments; The Department of English and Communication (JBIK), the Department of Islamic Understanding and Arabic Language (JKIBA), and the Department of Social Studies and Humanities (JPSK). The faculty is headed by the Dean, Deputy Dean (Academic and Internationalisation), Deputy Dean (Student Affairs), Heads of Department, Heads of Programmes, and Course Coordinators.
Currently, there are five (5) study programmes offered by FSS: Diploma in English Studies (LS43), Diploma in Communication (CS41), Bachelor of English with Corporate Communication (Honours) (BB09), Bachelor of Communication (Broadcasting) (Honours) (BC02), and Master of Communication (MT14). The faculty is also in the process of developing additional academic programmes to be offered in the near future.
FSS is entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the integration of Islamic values through the development of core curricula, specifically compulsory General Studies (MPU), University Requirement courses (WU), and Elective courses. These core courses are mandatory for all UIS students in accordance with the academic structure of their respective programmes.
The establishment of FSS inspires to provide greater academic opportunities to the academic staff to develop sustainable careers through teaching, research, publication, supervision, and other scholarly endeavours within their areas of expertise. The faculty hopes to produce graduates who are aligned with the aspirations of Society 5.0 and the vision of future civilisation, with the capacity to integrate effectively within both physical and digital environments.
